I made visual effects for a Sci-Fi short film shot only a green screen. It was quite interesting, since I made all the environments, objects and effects in this short film on my own. The footage of this film was shot with the actors on a green screen, with almost no scenery.

The scene in a spaceship. The original shot with 2 actors.

The final shot with added visual effects. (Spaceship environment, objects, effects, color correction)
How was the work on adding visual effects in the film?

The director contacted me and sent me a storyboard of future shots and a detailed description of the visual effects. After discussing all the details, the director shot the entire short film, according to my instructions for shooting on a green screen.
The director gave me clear and detailed instructions on how to create shots so that I could understand exactly what needed to be done.
He said:
“We need a spaceship in a red or blue light. Also, we would like the actors to control the spacecraft using the steering wheel or the sensor holographic panel that will be in front of them.”
After that, based on the director’s comments, I added visual effects to the frames of the film.

How many 3D environments were created for actors in total?
Space (spacecraft), landfill and nature (green clearing).
How expensive is it and how long does it take to do this work?
The timing of this short film was 7 minutes.
I can’t reveal the financial details of this project, however it took me over 3 months to create all the visual effects. To calculate how long a similar project would take, I first need to look at a detailed frame-by-frame storyboard.
With my unique skills and vast experience, I can move real actors into absolutely any environment, even if there is only a green screen behind them. However, lately, I have been increasingly approached for the creation of digital actors, or rather the so-called “3D avatars”. If you are also interested in the question: “How to create digital 3D avatars?”, then I suggest you read my article.
